The site of In Motion, Riel Park’s Amenities Building serves as a gathering place for groups meeting for activities taking place in the park. The common thread of In Motion is, clearly, motion: people getting out, getting together, and being active in the setting of Riel Park.
The largest of the group of five artistic panels, this side door symbolizes seven of the many activities hosted by Riel Park, adding colour, texture, and an asymmetrical flourish while complementing the subdued tones of the structure.
Created in a graphic style that echoes the wending of the nearby Sturgeon River, the upward sweep of the bands uplifts the viewer while evoking the overarching theme of the panels.
The panels above the front doors repeat the symbols of four of the activities represented on the side door and add harmonious splashes of colour while their curvilinearity contrasts with the Amenities Building’s rectilinearity, granting a suggestion of energy and dynamism.
