To create this piece, I used small already-dyed wooden blocks 1/2″ x 1/2″ in size.
To add detail to the image, I used india ink and had my daughter put her hand prints onto the blocks. I then photographed all of the blocks and used the computer to analyze each wooden block to determine the best position for each. Following the computer analysis, I spent time manually finding the best fit to optimize the clarity of the final mosaic.
The further away the mosaic is viewed, the easier you will be able to see the image of Mona Lisa’s eyes.
