This portrait of my pet iguana, Rex, is a computer illustration I did back in 1992. This image is entirely vector based (no photos) and was created using CorelDRAW on a 486 computer. In the background is a scan of my fingerprint which I divided into 64 squares and then rendered each one with a different rendering technique.
It is interesting that even 20 years ago I was using grids to divide and reassemble to create something new and different.
This image won 1st overall in the Corel Draw World design Competition, for which I received a one kilogram gold brick. It’s too bad gold was only around $340 an ounce back then. Still, the $13,000 went a long way to paying off my visa and the win gave my self confidence a huge boost and ultimately was the impetus for me to strike out on my own as an artist.
